Authorities advise no unnecessary travel

Thu 4-11-2019

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Jackson County Emergency Management and Jackson County Public Works are advising no unnecessary travel in all of Jackson County. Federated Rural Electric is reporting hundreds of broken distribution lines and more are expected to break throughout the day. Public Works is barricading numerous roads throughout the county with lines down on them.  Again, no unnecessary travel is advised in Jackson County.

In addition, The Cottonwood County Highway Department has pulled their plows from the roadways due to low visibility and power lines falling down. They will reassess the situation sometime this afternoon.

MnDOT has declared Highway 86 from the Iowa border to Wilder as a no travel advisory.  Downed power lines and poles in the ditch is making travel dangerous.  They have also closed Hwy 59 from Fulda to Worthington due to downed power lines.  Many roads in Murray, Redwood, Pipestone, Lincoln and Lyon counties are closed due to the weather conditions.
