17th Annual Prairie Winds Kite Fly Saturday
For the 17th year, giant kites will take over the skies above the Jackson Municipal Airport for the annual Prairie Winds Kite Fly. The event, sponsored by the Prairie Ecology Bus Center, will run from 10am to 4pm. Admission is free.
Prairie Ecology Bus Center Director Alisha Paplow says there is a new group coming this year…
“We have the group called Three Sheets, they’re from Wisconsin. And they are a quad-line kite flying group. And what they do is they do the synchronized dances up in the sky with their kites and there’s a group of four of them.”
There will also be more professional fliers this year…
“We have more kite flyers coming in this year than we did last year so we have about 13 to 15 pro kite flyers coming in this year. We have them coming from Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Iowa."
Along with the professional fliers, those attending are welcome to bring a kite to fly. There will be kites for sale as well as kits to make your own kite. Concessions will also be available.
