Under-17 team wins tourney finale

FÜSSEN, Germany – The U.S. Under-17 men's select hockey team defeated Germany 7-3 Saturday in the final game for both teams at the Five Nations Tournament.

Team USA led 2-1 after the first period and 4-3 after two before outscoring the Germans 3-0 in the final stanza.

With three wins in four tournament games, the U.S. finished second in the tournament.

The Czech Republic also went 3-1, beating the Americans 6-3 in the head-to-head matchup.

Hobie Hedquist of Heron Lake was a goaltender for Team USA.

Next week, Hedquist will go to camp with Dubuque of the United States Hockey League. The Fighting Saints open their preseason schedule Sept. 13 and the regular season Sept. 26.
