Saints top Huskies for 3AA South title

WORTHINGTON – St. James Area defeated Jackson County Central 76-72 in the championship game of the Section 3AA South Sub-Section boys basketball tournament Monday.

The Huskies led 29-28 at halftime.

The Saints led 59-51 with 8:00 remaining. JCC came back and had the lead late, but Kobe Mohwinkel hit a couple of threes to get the lead back for the Saints.

Rudy Voss scored 36 points for Jackson County Central, with 27 of those coming in the second half.

Andrew Hesebeck scored 21 points and Jack Brinkman eight.

Derrick Halvorson led St. James with 16 points, Parker Jones netted 15, with Hayden Jones and Kobe Mohwinkel scoring 14 apiece.

JCC finishes the season with an 18-10 record. The Huskies had only one senior on their roster, Jordan Hassing.

The Saints (18-8) will play Redwood Valley for the Section 3AA title at 5 p.m. Thursday at Southwest Minnesota State University.

The Cardinals (15-11) won the North Sub-Section title Monday, beating Morris/Chokio-Alberta 86-74 at Willmar.
