Huskies top Arrows to advance to sub-section final
WINDOM - Jackson County Central defeated Pipestone 66-56 in the semifinals of the Section 3AA South Sub-Section boys basketball tournament Thursday at Windom Area High School.
The teams split during regular season, with JCC scoring 80 in a win over the Arrows on Jan. 5 and then 42 in a loss in Feb. 5 loss to the Arrows.
Huskies coach Alex Hein said JCC was able to establish its pace this time in getting out to a 34-27 halftime lead.
Jackson County Central also shot free throws well, going 10-for-14 in the game including 7-8 in the second half.
JCC had three players score in double figures, with Andrew Hesebeck scoring 19 points including one three-pointer, Jack Brinkman scored 16 including four treys (three in the second half) and Rudy Voss scored 15 points that included three triples.
The Arrows also had three players in double figures, with Josh Tinklenberg scoring 16 points, Cole Zephier 14 and Braeden Rieck 10.
Second-seeded JCC is scheduled to play top-seeded St. James Area at 7 p.m. Monday in Worthington.
The Saints beat fifth-seeded Fairmont 58-52 with Parker Jones scoring 18 points and Lee Hillesheim 11.
The top two seeds lost in the 3AA North Sub-Section semifinals Thursday.
Fourth-seeded Redwood Valley beat top-seeded New London-Spicer 67-58 and No. 3 Morris/Chokio-Alberta defeated No. 2 Minnewaska Area 55-50.
The Cardinals and Tigers are scheduled to play at 7 p.m. Monday at Willmar High School.
