Huskies bring home three medals from state meet

ST. PAUL - Jackson County Central brought home three medals from the state track and field meet at Hamline University.
Damien Van Westen finished third in the 400 meters, breaking the 50-second mark in the final open event of his career with a time of 49.86 seconds. He had a goal all season of getting into the 49s all season and was able to do it in the state finals.
Isaac Johnson placed fifth in the 300-meter hurdles in 40.78 seconds.
Johnson and VanWesten ran the opening and anchor legs of the Huskies' 4x400 team that placed eighth. David Strom and Zach Poelart ran the second and third legs of the team that placed eighth in 3:30.89.
Also, Morgan Gehl of Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda was fourth in the 1600 Saturday in 5:04.23. She was also fourth in the 3200 on Friday in 10:59.91.
Windom's Delaney Smith was third in the shot put (41-10.5).
