Eagles fall to Cards in section opener

LUVERNE - Fourth-seeded Luverne was a 3-1 winner over fifth-seeded Windom Area in the first round of the Section 3A girls hockey tournament Friday at Blue Mound Ice Arena.

After a scoreless first period, the Cardinals scored all of their goals in the second period.

The Eagles scored at 7:26 of the third with Dakotah Oddson scoring unassisted.

Luverne outshot Windom Area 39-14. Kaylie Baerg made 36 saves for the Eagles, who finish with a 7-17 record.

The Cardinals (16-6-3) play at top-seeded Mankato East/Loyola at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. The Cougars had a first-round bye.
