Buzzer-beater drops Laker men to 0-2

ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Iowa Lakes Community College men’s basketball team opened its season with a pair of losses at the Cowley Classic, falling to Coffeyville 82-81 Saturday after a 113-84 loss to the host team Friday.
In the Saturday game, the NJCAA Division II Lakers led Division I 17th-ranked Coffeyville by two points with 1.9 seconds remaining when the Ravens heaved up a 65-foot shot that rattled in and out and back in as time expired.
The Lakers were led by Justin Brookens (Milwaukee Vincent) with 21 points. Keshawn Pegues (Davenport Central) had a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds. Kevin Cook (Milwaukee Bay View) also scored 11 points.
"Our guys played a lot harder and tougher then we did (Friday)," said Iowa Lakes Head Coach Troy Larson. "We got better yet have a ton of things we can improve on and I am excited to see where we are in the next couple of weeks.”
On Friday, Cook had a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Boston Grimes (Johnston) added 13 points and Pegues 11.
The Lakers will open up their home schedule at 7:30 p.m. Monday vs. the Dordt University JV.
